What is a DLP Projector?
DLP projector is a combination of chips. DLP projector was developed in 1987. The person who develops DLP Projector was Larry Hornbeck. The place the DLP Projector invents is Taxes Instrument. But DLP projectors were introduced in 1997, in this long period of time the inventors updated these projectors day by day. Then in 1998 the DLP projector and Taxes Instruments got an Emmy award.
Uses of DLP Projectors
DLP projectors are basically used in classrooms and business fields and cinemas and also television displays and to display a digital signs etc. The chipset used in this technology is based on a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) and uses a micromirror device.
After getting an Emmy Award the inventor upgraded this projector a lot. Then this projector was commercially used in Cinemas. The first movie displayed with the help of a DLP projector was Star War: episode (I). The date of releasing this movie with the help of a DLP projector was 1999.
They also display the computerized animated movie Tarzan in the same year.
They also display toy stories (II). Toy Story 2 is the first movie that is fully edited and created and display digitally. Most of the theaters installed digital projectors before releasing this movie.

How Does a Dlp Projector Work?
We know that DLP stands for digital light processing device. In this picture, we clearly see that the projection lamp transfers light to the color wheel. Then this wheel transfers light to the relay lens. This relay lens transfers light to the Digital micromirror Device (DMD). Then this device transfer light to the projection lens.
So this is the working process of the DLP projector and is shown in the diagram.
Digital Micromirror Device (DMD)
Digital Micromirror Device is the backbone of the DLP projector. It is a very important feature of the DLP projector. Digital Micromirror Device is basically used to display or create a video display in a DLP projector. Basically, DMD is a small chip and it is used in most projectors and televisions.
How to Connect a Laptop to a Projector?
The basic step of connecting a laptop with a projector are listed below. All you need is a laptop, a projector, a set of speakers, a VGA or HDMI cable, and a power cord.
- First, make sure the laptop and projector both are off.
- Next, try to connect the VGA cable to the VGA connector or HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your laptop and on the projector.
- Third thing is to plug the projector power core into the projector and electric board.
- Then turn on the laptop and projector.
- When your laptop turns on then go to the function keys and press F1, F2, F7, F8.
- the last step is to adjust the focus of your projection.
Advantages of DLP Projectors
It requires less maintenance because they have a filter-free and sealed chip.
Disadvantages of DLP Projectors
- With a three-panel design, each panel required a perfect place if each isn’t in the perfect place then the quality of an image is decreased.
- DLP projector is slower than other projectors.
- If the chip is sealed and other components are not then they affect the image. We didn’t see a clear image if other components are not properly sealed.
- If we placed the DLP projector at a far distance then we didn’t get a large image.
- DLP projector required a smaller environment to display any type of image.
DLP Projectors vs LCD Projectors
While comparing an LCD projector to a DLP projector, we see the good quality of the image in LCD Projector as compared to the DLP Projector because the LCD projector used three liquid crystal displays as the result we get beautiful images. However, a one-chip DLP projector used a fast-moving color wheel as the result they break the colors of the image.
That’s why the LCD projector is better than a one-chip DLP projector. If we test the display output white light of both projectors then we see that LCD is better than the DLP projector.
In this picture, you see one side is clear and the other side is a bit dark. So the color resolution of the LCD is better compared to the DLP projector.
