What Is the Difference Between a Chromebook and a Laptop

In this article, we will discuss the difference Between a Chromebook and a Laptop. Laptops and Chromebooks differ from each other in specifications and functionality. We will discuss these things in detail.

What is Chromebook?

The first-ever Chromebook was introduced back in 2011. Since then, Google and its partners have been able to iterate on the concept, adding new models and fixes along the way. Chromebooks have come a long way in that time, but they still have their own strengths and weaknesses. You can’t easily run Adobe Photoshop on a Chromebook just yet, or play the latest games. But you can get online and complete all sorts of tasks quickly and efficiently.

1. Pros of Chromebook:

  • Chromebook is smaller, lighter, and less expensive.
  • Full keyboard built-in

2. About Software:

Chromebooks are designed to be connected to the internet and rely on Google’s cloud-based apps, so they aren’t natively compatible with macOS or Windows. If you need Microsoft’s suite of word processing, spreadsheet, and email apps like Word, Excel, and Outlook, use a virtual desktop that can access Google Workspace through the android store online.

3. Prices:

Chromebooks are less expensive than traditional laptops because they don’t have as much hardware. A decent Chromebook will go for less than $200, whereas a good laptop might cost you at least $500. If you’re using a Chromebook for its intended purpose, which is simple, easy, cloud-based computing on the go, that’s pretty good value. The best Chromebooks do feel a bit more lightweight when compared to other laptops since they usually come with Intel Celeron or Pentium N processors and 4GB of RAM.

4. Are Chromebooks intended for casual use?

Chromebooks aren’t meant for hardcore productivity, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use them for more than word processing and writing articles. Sure, you probably won’t use it to edit professional photos, but considering its price range, the performance is more than decent.

5. Some gestures about Chromebook you should know:

Yes, Chromebooks are cheap, light, and get long battery life. Asus has an affordable Chromebook that hits all these aspects, but it makes some sacrifices to keep the price low. It’s a bit slow and the display is limited to a 1366 x 768 resolution, plus there are plenty of Chromebooks with more ports that cover all the basics and more: USB-C, USB-A, and even microSD. There’s only one full-sized USB port here (the other port is a USB 2 slot), which can be limiting if you need to use a USB mouse and printer at the same time.

What is Laptop?

A laptop, also known as a notebook, refers to a small, portable personal computer with a screen and alphanumeric keyboard. A laptop combines the input/output and storage components and capabilities of a desktop system in a small chassis that a person can carry around easily.

Laptop computers often have processors or internal components closely related to those in desktop computers but are built in a smaller case design. Their portability makes laptops convenient for carrying from one place to another or using in temporary locations like classrooms or meetings, which allow business people to make presentations on their laptop computers. But because they are smaller and lighter than desktops, laptops are at greater risk of physical damage due to falls or mishandling.

Laptops usually have less computing speed and efficiency than workstations and servers. Furthermore, their small display screens (11″ to 20″) are more suited for viewing documents than multimedia applications.

1. Pros of Laptop:

  • Easy to take out.
  • It is not necessary to use a keyboard.

Difference Between a Chromebook and a Laptop

A Chromebook is small, thin, lightweight, and cheap. but it lacks in functionality. You may use it for browsing but not for heavy tasks. It often lags when you put some heavy tasks over it. But it is good for travelers who want a mini laptop with them while traveling. These Chromebooks are equipped with ChromeOS by Google. They have less storage space and very little memory.

The laptop on the other hand is a full-fledged computer and it performs all the tasks that a desktop computer can do. You may play games, perform heavy tasks, and use them for your business-oriented tasks. They are more costly than a Chromebook but they fulfill all you need in a portable manner. The laptops are equipped with Windows, Linux, or macOS. They have huge storage space and a good memory.

It is a popular thing that people buy portable electronic devices like Chromebooks, and laptops, nowadays. Some people may realize that the two of them are not exactly the same, but cannot point out how they are different.
